Now THIS is scarier than any movie out there. Our state's texting while driving ban goes into effect Wednesday, and the website for the local news channel just reminded us of that and asked if we would obey the law.

A LOT of the people said NO. Reason? "It's my addiction..I can't not do it." (I'm sure you won't do it anymore after you hit and kill someone while texting, cos you will go to JAIL.) Someone else said why are the police exempt, they use their keyboards while driving. To that I say, quit changing the subject. No texing while driving. Period.

If someone's driving and I am in the car, I get the hell OUT if they pull out the cell phone and text. I mean RIGHT NOW. Pull over, open door, let me out. You wanna kill yourself? Go right ahead. If I can knock that phone out of your hand before I get out, so much the better. I don't care if you've never had an accident in your life.

YOU CAN'T PAY ATTENTION TO THE ROAD AND TEXT. YOU CAN'T. You are swerving and don't know it. How close are you to that other car? Or the one in the other lane?

I know people will still do it. But maybe hitting them in the wallet will make them do it LESS. I hope so.

I have no words for this. They said no. Really. Just, no?

Lots of people have REAL addictions, but you know, it's not often that I see people tying tourniquets 'round their biceps and prepping that syringe on the fucking highway.

And these people aren't just going to kill themselves. As a non-driver, I've been almost hit myriad times, and actually hit once, by people just not paying fucking attention. I don't even text when I want to cross the road. I stop texting, look around, and don't look at the phone again till I'm safely on the other side.

Really, the urge isn't that strong. At all. I will live if that text doesn't get answered. I just might not if it does.

Sorry my comment is so long. This just hits a nerve I suppose.

LOL of the Day

My local TV channel's website must be run by young whippersnappers. They posted that Leslie Nielsen had died, and a few people who were familiar with his career posted "Shirley you can't be serious!"

The website replied "Who is Shirley?"

OY!

For those of us who loved Airplane!, Dracula..Dead and Loving It, and the Naked Gun movies....we will remember Leslie Nielsen. The actor has passed away, leaving a legacy of laughter behind.

Shirley, you can't be serious?

I am serious, and stop calling me Shirley.

Love ya, Leslie. RIP

Ready for some more turkey?

Kanye West interrupted a performance in New York yesterday to rant for ten minutes about various things, according to yahoo news.

Of his interruption during Taylor Swift's award last year, he said "If I wasn't drunk, I would have been onstage longer." He also said of Swift: "Taylor never came to my defense in any interview."

Say WHAT?

"It's disrespectful to anyone who's creative," he said of Swift's win last year. "It's a slap in the face to everyone who tries to do something real."

For the record, Swift was gracious about the whole affair last year, and even included West on her latest album, "Speak Now."

West also dissed the Today show, on which he appeared recently. "Because of the popularity of me they exploited that to make you watch the interview," he stated.

Will someone flush this turd already?

Taylor Swift, was disrespectful of, hiii. . . . ? I can't even finish that question.

It just, it defies all logic! I bet gravity doesn't even hold his brain down. It just defies everything and floats up against his skull.

I can't use the webcam feature. Whenever I try to use it, it completely freezes my computer, as well as logs me out of VR. I suppose that's because I have a slow connection via dial-up. As it's all I can manage at the moment, the webcam feature will be one I cannot use. ah well.

Royal Engagement!

00:30 Nov 17 2010
Times Read: 679

Well, finally it's official. Prince William and his long time girlfriend, Kate Middleton, will marry next spring or summer in London. She will be the first commoner to marry an heir presumptive in 350 years.

What won my heart was that Prince William proposed with his mother's engagement ring. The famous sapphire surrounded by diamonds will now adorn the finger of another princess. I thought that was nice. He said "It was my way of making sure my mother didn't miss out on today."

I know a lot of people don't care about this sort of thing, but hopefully it will be something good for Britons, who have watched the Prince grow up. He and his lady have been pretty good role models for royal behavior over the years, and I think they will make a damn good King and Queen. I may not live long enough to see them crowned, but I sure can watch the wedding!

Cheers.

I also thought this was *quite* cool :) It's pretty awesome for those of us that watched Diana and Charles marry on TV, and remember William and Harry being born- the sadness of Diana's death, but then again- the happiness of this latest news. I *see* her whenever William smiles.

Yummy Stuff

One of the best things about working for Greek people....they go all out at holiday time with food. This past weekend my boss celebrated Thanksgiving a little early, because his sister came from California (she couldn't come on the actual holiday).

The whole family went into baking and cooking frenzy mode. I wasn't invited to the actual dinner but today at work they all brought in huge Tupperware containers of goodies they saved for me...turkey, ham, stuffing, salad, sweet potatoes, green beans...and did I mention dessert?

Pumpkin pie. Cherry pie. Date nut bars. And..my special favorite...baklava. Damned if they didn't save out about 10 bars just for me! I only eat this once or twice a year as it's so rich...homemade baklava must rank right up there with some of the most decadent stuff on earth. I love it.

Got lots of good eats for the rest of the week!

Holidays

03:09 Nov 07 2010
Times Read: 723

You young folks on here probably won't believe this, but once upon a time, there was actually a time when the Christmas holiday was celebrated AFTER Thanksgiving. Nowadays retailers go all out even before Halloween to get the Christmas sales and things going, but when I was a wee tot, this didn't happen till after Thanksgiving was done.

My family didn't even put up a tree and decorate till December was well underway. Stores started advertising holiday sales in December, and on the TV, a lot of people had their annual Christmas shows....anyone remember Carol Burnett, Sonny and Cher, the Osmonds and others who put on Christmas shows? Usually a bunch of comedy sketches, special "guest stars" and at the end, a medley of Christmas carols against a Currier and Ives background.

Nostalgia..isn't what it used to be. Damn, I'm old. :P

Poem

00:29 Nov 05 2010

This is one of my favorite poems, but it's very sad. Have a tissue handy as you read....

Little Boy Blue

The little toy dog is covered with dust,

But sturdy and staunch he stands.

The little toy soldier is red with rust,

And his musket molds in his hands.

Time was when the little toy dog was new,

And the soldier was passing fair:

And that was when the Little Boy Blue

Kissed them and put them there.

"Now don't you go till I come," he said,

"And don't you make any noise!"

So, toddling off to his trundle bed,

He dreamed of his pretty toys;

And, as he was dreaming, an angel song

Awakened our Little Boy Blue--

Oh! The years are many, the years are long,

But the little toy friends are true!

Ay, faithful to Little Boy Blue they stand,

Each in the same old place,

Awaiting the touch of a little hand,

The smile of a little face;

And they wonder, as waiting the long years through

IN the dust of that little chair,

What has become of our Little Boy Blue

Since he kissed them and put them there.

---Eugene Field
